This project sought to increase capacity at the M24 Junction 6 near Birmingham International Airport, which will reduce congestion and improve reliable roadway network operations. It includes building a 2.4-kilometer roadway, eight bridges, and two roundabouts. Skanska UK faced planning, coordination, and integration challenges, compounded by working around a live major junction. They tried several third-party 4D solutions, but none offered field reporting or interoperability to connect with their in-house planning software.

They selected ProjectWise to establish a connected data environment and linked the multidiscipline models with the project schedule using SYNCHRO applications. Skanska UK provided visual planning and on-site access to the models and construction schedule early in the design process to identify an average of 10 potential issues at each location, which would have resulted in costly construction delays. The digital solution provided an early understanding of the complex construction sequence, mitigating risk and facilitating more efficient workflows.
