This highway project connecting two banks of the Yujiang River features the world’s longest continuous-span rigid frame bridge with corrugated steel webs. Guangxi Transportation Science and Technology are responsible for overall design planning during construction, operations, and maintenance. They faced challenges coordinating and managing the multiple engineering disciplines and finding a digital solution to model the long-span roads and bridges. Their previous third-party technology lacked interoperability and model application beyond the initial design stage.
They selected OpenRoads to streamline design and construction management and establish a digital twin. OpenRoads supported the large-volume models and was compatible with other BIM software. The solution rapidly processed large amounts of component data, improved quality and efficiencies, and provided a digital twin for construction and lifecycle management. They reduced working construction time by one month, saving over USD 1 million in labor costs, and are expected to complete the project three months ahead of schedule.
