Climate Pledge Arena is Seattle’s redevelopment initiative for a sports and entertainment facility to be constructed under the historic, 44-million-ton roof originally built for the 1962 Seattle World Fair. Mortenson was tasked with demolishing the exiting arena, preserving the iconic roof and façade, excavating 640,000 cubic yards of soil, and constructing the world’s first net-zero arena. They faced site limitations, as well as material transport and installation challenges to coordinate the complex, schedule-driven project. Therefore, they needed comprehensive 4D modeling technology.

Already familiar with SYNCHRO, they used SYNCHRO 4D’s construction simulation to visually monitor site works and communicate the demolition, excavation, and building sequence, providing schedule transparency throughout the project at all levels. Using the model eliminated the need for in-person review meetings and helped the team make critical decisions in real time. The 4D digital solution allowed them to leverage collaborative BIM workflows, verify multiple design changes, and determine construction sequencing, improving cost efficiency.
