This proof-of-concept project was initiated to improve building certification and inspection works and to adopt 3D standardized specifications within Japan’s strict Building Standards Act. Five Technology was hired to transition inspection works from using 2D CAD methods to using 3D BIM data. They faced challenges developing approved 3D inspection processes, realizing that they needed integrated BIM and digital twin technologies to develop a centralized building management and inspection system.

They selected Bentley’s BIM and iTwin applications to develop 3D data-based inspections and documentation, and deploy a connected data environment, enabling unified management using digital twins to improve productivity and resolve inefficiencies of manual 2D processes. The solution will streamline workflows and defines standardized inspection processes, which is expected to reduce inspection times and costs.
